Arsenal agree £32.7m deal to sign La Liga star – reports
According to reports in Spain via TeamTalk, Arsenal have agreed a deal worth an initial £32.7m to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi when the transfer window opens in January.
N’Zonzi hasn’t featured for Sevilla since having a bust-up with boss Eduardo Berizzo during the clubs dramatic 3-3 draw with Liverpool last month.
The midfielder claims Berizzo blamed him for the team being 3-0 down at half time and he stormed out of the stadium and hasn’t played for the club since.
Arsenal are one of several Premier League teams who’ve been linked over the past two weeks and it seems we might have wrapped-up a big money deal this winter.
TeamTalk are citing a report from Spanish outlet El Gol Digital that claims Arsenal have reached an agreement with Sevilla to sign N’Zonzi in January for an initial £32.7m with a further £2.6m in bonuses.
We’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind this report but it comes shortly after N’Zonzi admitted he’s looking to leave Sevilla when the window re-opens next month.
He’s quoted as saying last week by TeamTalk:
“My future is somewhere else. We just have to wait until December is over and everything will be done.
“I hope Sevilla qualify in the Champions League and have good luck in the future, but I will not be part of that adventure.
“What hurts is the way everything is going to end. It hurts, of course, but for now the team is functioning. There’s only a short time left, just December to pass, and it’s better that my time at Sevilla stops then.”
N’Zonzi is a tall, powerful central midfielder who’s got bags of talent so he has the potential to be a top signing for Arsenal if we do end up buying him.
However, I’m not getting too carried away with these reports just yet as I’d be surprised if Wenger had agreed to spent around £35m on a player who’ll be 35 later this week.
