Arsenal to launch swoop to sign 26-year-old attacker – report

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are set to launch a fresh swoop to sign Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez as Arsene Wenger looks to replace Alexis Sanchez.

Our Chilean super star showed us what we’re going to miss with a superb performance during the win at Crystal Palace last night as he prepares to leave the club either in January or when his contract expires in June.

Sanchez’s exit will leave a huge void to fill and it seems we’re going to go back in for a long-term target as Wenger looks for a suitable replacement.

The Mirror are citing reports coming out of Algerian outlet Le Buteur that claim Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in Riyad Mahrez next month.

We were strongly linked with Mahrez last summer after he handed in a written transfer request to try and push through a move away from the King Power but a deal failed to materialise.

Leicester valued the 26-year-old at around £40m-£50m depending on which newspaper you read but it remains to be seen how much they’ll want fir the attacker this winter.

Mahrez has shown glimpses of his talent this season with 6 goals and 6 assists to his name so far but he’s not reproduced the kind of form that saw him win the PFA Player of the Year in 2015/16.

I’d personally prefer we go all-out for Thomas Lemar or Nabil Fekir but Mahrez would be a decent signing if we couldn’t get deals agreed for the French duo.

It’s going to be extremely difficult to replace Sanchez as he’s one of the best players in the world when he’s on-form and fully motivated, but hopefully Wenger can pull something special out the bag.
