Aubameyang to Arsenal done: £53m fee and contract worth £8.8m-per-season agreed

According to a BBC journalist, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on the verge of joining Arsenal after a £53m transfer fee and personal terms worth £8.8m-per-season were agreed.

It’s been a busy few days regarding Aubameyang news as the striker’s future was cast in doubt after he was axed from the Borussia Dortmund squad for their clash with Wolfsburg last Sunday.

Arsenal were then strongly linked with the player after Guillem Balague claimed we were in talks about signing the Gabon international as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

The Metro then claimed that Aubameyang’s agent – and father – had travelled to London to try and thrash out a deal while Arsene Wenger refused to rule out a move for the striker at his press conference this morning.

Dortmund initially insisted that Aubameyang would be included in their squad for the Hertha Berlin game on Friday night, however, talk of a move to Arsenal intensified after he was left out of the travelling squad that left earlier this evening.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the 28-year-old is desperate to join Arsenal and has now agreed personal terms worth £8.8m-per-season over his proposed move to the Emirates.

All that remained was to agree a deal with Dortmund and BBC’s African reporter Gary Al-Smith has taken to Twitter to confirm that a deal has now been reached worth around £53m.

There is a chance the terms of the deal could change if Olivier Giroud is included as part-exchange but Mr Smith – who has almost 175,000 followers – says Aubameyang is relieved to finally be leaving Dortmund.

We’ll have to wait and see how accurate this information is but German outlet Bild are also suggesting a deal is ‘imminent’ so it does look like we’re closing in on what would be a sensational signing.

Aubameyang has scored 21 goals this season while he bagged 40 last year so he’s one of the most prolific hitmen in world football. I’m still not sure how we’ll fit him and Lacazette in to the same team but hey, it’s better to have too many good strikers than too few!
