3 targets revealed – Arsenal’s new DoF Raul Sanllehi already working on summer deals
According to Evening Standard reporter James Olley, Arsenal new Director of Football, Raul Sanllehi, is already working on our summer recruitment drive as we continue to overhaul the squad.
We signed Konstantinos Mavrapanos, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January while Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Francis Coquelin were among the players to leave.
Arsene Wenger [or a new manager?] is expected to continue to revamp the squad this summer and the clubs new DoF – who officially started work yesterday – is already working on targets.
The Evening Standard claims Arsenal’s priority to strengthen the defence and we are expected to renew our interest in Jonny Evans after failing to sign him over the past two transfer windows.
We reportedly saw a £12m deadline day offer rejected for Evans but Arsenal are expected to go back in for the Northern Ireland international – especially if West Brom are relegated as a £3m buyout clause would be activated – while Kostas Manolas is also a target.
A new goalkeeper to replace Petr Cech is also on the agenda as it’s clear the 35-year-old’s best days are behind him following another basic error against Swansea in midweek.
The Evening Standard claim Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak is a target and I think he would be a sensational signing if we could somehow lure him to the Emirates.
Finally, the newspaper says Arsenal will continue to strengthen our attack and will go back in for Bordeaux winger Malcom after showing a keen interest in the Brazilian international this winter.
The 20-year-old has an asking price of around £40m but we’ll no doubt face stiff competition from a number of clubs should we formalise our interest in the South American this summer.
For me, Arsenal also desperately need a defensive midfielder as we’re crying out for someone to protect the back four and dominate play from the middle of the park, so hopefully Sanllehi is also working on bringing in another midfielder.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting summer with plenty of changes coming to Arsenal. We had an excellent January so lets hope the club can continue to build a title-challenging squad in the summer window.
