Arsenal agree to meet £28m buyout clause after talks with midfielders agent
According to reports in Germany via TeamTalk, Arsenal have informed Kerem Demirbay’s agent that we’re willing to meet the Hoffenheim midfielders £28m buyout clause this summer.
Arsene Wenger worked hard overhauling his attack during the winter window but the boss is expected to turn his attention to strengthening other areas of his squad in the summer with midfield a particular concern.
Santi Cazorla is increasingly unlikely to play for Arsenal again, Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation is up in the air, Granit Xhaka has been a huge disappointment while Jack Wilshere is yet to sign a new extension with his deal set to expire in June.
We also haven’t brought in a replacement for Francis Coquelin so Wenger needs to add to his midfield this summer and it looks like he’s once again eyeing a swoop on the Bundesliga.
TeamTalk are carrying a report from SportsBild that claims Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay and made it clear we’re ready to pay his £28m buyout clause.
Demirbay has become one of the best midfielders in German football since joining Hoffenheim from Hamburger SV in 2016 and he’s broken in to the German national team set-up ahead of the World Cup.
The 24-year-old would be a solid addition to the squad if we could lure him to north London this summer, however, we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature.
The report says that Liverpool are also prepared to meet his buyout fee while the likes of Everton, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund have expressed interest so Arsenal have a battle on their hands to sign Demirbay at the end of the season.
