Arsenal in fierce battle to sign £90m attacker [Telegraph]

By on March 10, 2018

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal now face a fierce battle with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea if we’re to sign Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar this summer.

Lemar came close to joining Arsenal on deadline day last summer with a £90m deal on the table but it fell through at the last minute after the player decided he didn’t have enough time to consider the move.

We’ve been tipped to renew our interest in the French international at the end of the season as Monaco refused to do business in January but it seems the race for Lemar’s signature is heating up.

The Telegraph claim City have now joined Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in the running to sign Lemar and Pep Guardiola is ready to launch a big-money swoop for the attacker.

City missed out on Alexis Sanchez in January when he opted for a move to Manchester United so it looks like Guardiola has now set his sights on landing Lemar this summer.

The report says it’s unclear how much City are prepared to pay but Monaco will want a similar figure to the £90m Arsenal put on the table in August – which shouldn’t be a problem for a club with the resources available at the Etihad.

Lemar has failed to reproduce his form from last season as he’s provided just 2 goals and 8 assists in his 20 Ligue 1 games but the 22-year-old is a huge talent so I think he’ll be a superb signing for whoever wins the race for his signature.

We desperately need to add some width to our squad and Lemar can play on either wing, as well as through the middle, so he’d be an excellent addition to our squad.

However, it looks like we’re facing a tough battle to sign the Frenchman this summer and I don’t see us competing with the likes of City….
