Video: Arsenal 3-2 Southampton: Welbeck scores double as Gunners extend winning run
Arsenal came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 in an eventful game at the Emirates this afternoon.
Some shocking defending from Shkodran Mustafi led to the opening goal as the static German allowed Shane Long to get in front of him to poke home at the near post in the 17th minute.
However, we finally put a decent passage of play together as Alex Iwobi combined with Danny Welbeck’s and his superb flick found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who made no mistake to make it 1-1 in the 28th minute.
We then took the lead ten minutes later when Welbeck’s effort from 20 yards flew past Alex McCarthy via a deflection to make it 2-1.
Southampton rallied in the second half and after a period of pressure they made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute when Charlie Austin tapped home following more poor defending.
However, fair play to Arsenal we responded again and found a third goal as Welbeck was on hand to head home at the far stick for 3-2 in the 81st minute.
Jack Stephens was then sent off for pushing Jack Wilshere before Mo Elneny stupidly got himself sent off for a minor shove during the closing stages as we held on to secure our sixth consecutive win in all competitions.
