Official statement: Arsene Wenger confirms he will leave Arsenal this summer
The day has finally come. Arsene Wenger has confirmed in a statement on Arsenal.com this morning that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
The Frenchman had one year remaining on his current deal but he’s been under increasing pressure to end his tenure as manager following another frustrating campaign.
We will miss out on the top four for the second consecutive year after not winning a single point away from home in 2018 and a growing number of fans have turned their back on the boss.
We’ve seen the Emirates half empty for recent home games and while we could yet win the Europa League, it seems Wenger has decided it’s time to step aside.
In a statement on Arsenal.com, he said:
“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season.
“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.
“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.
“I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special.
“I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high.
“To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.
“My love and support for ever.”
Arsene Wenger
This day has been coming for some time and like the majority of fans, I’ve been calling for change in recent years but it’s still an emotional time now that Wenger has finally decided to call it a day.
I hope we see the fans get right behind him during the final stages of the season. Let’s pack the Emirates against West Ham and Burnley and give the great man the send off he deserves.
