[Photos] Players greet Wenger in training after Frenchman confirms he’s leaving Arsenal
The players greeted Arsene Wenger in training today just 24 hours after the Frenchman confirmed he’ll be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season.
Wenger made the surprise announcement on Friday morning after releasing a statement on Arsenal.com confirming he’s decided now is the time to end his 22-year reign in north London.
There has been growing pressure from the fans and boardroom following another disappointing Premier League campaign that’s destined to see us miss out on the top four for a second consecutive season.
We still have a Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid coming up but the dire domestic campaign has led to thousands of supporters boycotting home games in recent weeks.
It seems the feeling among the fan-base has seeped in to the board room and Wenger has decided to walk away on his own terms rather than face the potential sack this summer.
The players were told in the dressing room shortly before the announcement was made on Friday and we’ve now got pictures showing some of the boys greeting Wenger in training today.
No doubt the squad is still in a state of shock and it will take some time to get used to the idea Wenger won’t be here next season but let’s hope the players, and supporters, get behind the boss from now until the end of the season.
I expect the stadium will be packed for the visit of West Ham on Sunday and the players have been undertaking their final preparations at London Colney today.
