Arsenal hold talks with German star ahead of possible £22m deal [Bild]

By on May 8, 2018

According to Bild, Arsenal have held talks with Bayern Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno ahead of a potential £22m switch to north London this summer.

We are still waiting to find out who will replace Arsene Wenger at the end of the season but Sven Mislintat has been tasked with overseeing our summer transfer business and a new keeper is a priority.

Petr Cech’s form has been slowly declining and he’s made several high profile errors this season so whoever replaces Wenger is going to need a new No.1 if we’re to compete properly next season.

Leno has been touted as a prime target in recent months and it seems we’ve stepped-up our interest as Bild claim Arsenal have now held talks with the stopper about a potential move to the Emirates.

The German publication says Leno has already turned down a move to Napoli but is more open to the idea of joining Arsenal or Atletico Madrid – who’re also chasing his signature.

Leno is under contract with Leverkusen until 2020 but the Bundesliga club will be powerless to prevent him leaving if the likes of Arsenal agree to meet his £22m release clause , as per Bild’s report.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in German football over the past few years and £22m is a very reasonable deal in today’s crazy market so I can see why Arsenal are showing such a keen interest.

There is no doubt we need a new No.1 and Leno has the potential to be our keeper for the next 5+ years so I think he’d be an excellent signing if we could lure him to the Emirates this summer.

Let’s hope Mislintat and the boys can get this deal done.
