New Arsenal boss to use connections to secure deal for £18m star

By on May 26, 2018

According to a report by TeamTalk, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery is hoping to use his connections at Sevilla to sign £18m-rated goalkeeper Sergio Rico this summer.

Emery was installed as Arsene Wenger’s replacement last week and our new boss is already working to revamp the squad with a new No.1 understood to be a top priority.

Petr Cech is now 36-years-old and his form dipped dramatically last season while David Ospina is being tipped to leave after failing to establish himself at Arsenal in recent years.

Therefore, we desperately need to sign a reliable goalkeeper this summer and TeamTalk are carrying a report that suggests Emery is ready to raid his former club to sign Rico.

The report says Emery will try and use his connections at Sevilla to secure a deal for the 24-year-old having worked closely with the 1-cap Spanish international during his time at the Ramon Sanchez Stadium.

Rico has been with Sevilla since he was a child and progressed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the first team four years ago but he’s being tipped to seek a fresh challenge this summer.

Sevilla are already preparing for his departure with TeamTalk claiming they have shortlisted Fernando Pacheco, Yassine Bonou and Roberto Jiminez as potential replacements.

The report also states that Sevilla are willing to sell Rico if their £18m valuation is met – which seems like a reasonable fee in today’s market for a player approaching his best years.

I’d personally prefer Arsenal to sign Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen but Rico would be a decent back-up option if we couldn’t lure the German international to the Emirates.
