Deal agreed: Arsenal set to wrap-up 1st signing following talks at London Colney

According to reports in Italy via the Metro, Arsenal have a deal in place to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner following talks at London Colney with the Juventus star set to become Unai Emery’s first summer signing.

Our new manager was unveiled last week and he’s already working hard on strengthening the squad with a new right-back understood to be a priority for the Spanish coach.

Hector Bellerin played more minutes than any other Arsenal player last season so we desperately need someone to lighten the load and Lichtsteiner has emerged as a prime target.

News broke late last week that the Switzerland international had flow to London for transfer talks with Football London claiming he met with Arsenal chiefs at London Colney on Friday.

Those talks appear to have been productive as the Metro are citing a report from Gianluca Di Marzio that claims a deal is now in place for Arsenal to sign Lichtsteiner on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June.

The 34-year-old has spent seven hugely successful years in Turin where he’s helped Juve win a whole host of trophies including seven Serie A titles but he’s set for a fresh challenge in England.

Lichtsteiner is set to captain Switzerland at the World Cup and the Italian journalist says he wants his future resolved before the tournament kicks-off so he should be announced as our first summer signing over the coming days.

Obviously he’s coming towards the end of his career but Lichtsteiner is still an excellent full-back and he’ll add vast experience to the squad so I think he’ll be a solid signing.

Plus, he’ll arrive for free so he won’t eat in to Emery’s transfer budget – which is reportedly set at somewhere between £50m-£70m – and he’ll provide some much-needed competition for Bellerin so this deal is a no-brainer.
