Emery continues overhaul with move for 6ft 2in Bundesliga star

By on June 8, 2018

According to reports in Germany via the Mirror, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is to continue his defensive overhaul with a move for RB Leipzig full-back Lukas Klostermann this summer.

Emery has already kicked off his transfer business with the free transfer arrival of Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus but the Swiss international is just a short-term solution at right-back.

Lichtsteiner is 34 and has only signed an initial one-year contract so we’re still going to need to find long-term competition for Hector Bellerin and it appears Emery has found his man.

The Mirror are quoting a report from Bild as saying that Arsenal are set to launch a move to sign Klostermann after being impressed with his performances for Leipzig last season.

The 22-year-old made 39 appearances in all competition for the Bundesliga outfit to help them qualify for the Europa League and he’s expected to become a senior international for Germany having represented his country at U21 level.

Klostermann stands at 6ft 2in’s and he’s known to be a powerful, athletic full-back so he should have no problem adapting to life in the Premier League if he does come to Arsenal.

However, Leipzig are under no pressure to sell as he’s still got three years left to run on his contract so we may have to table an offer they simply can’t refuse if we want to get a deal agreed.

Let’s see how things develop but Klostermann would offer solid competition to Bellerin while he’s also capable of playing anywhere across the back four so his versatility would be a useful asset if we could lure him to the Emirates.
