Arsenal’s 2018/19 Premier League fixtures confirmed: Nightmare start for Emery
The 2018/19 Premier League fixtures have been announced this morning and it’s safe to say Unai Emery has been handed a nightmare start to life in England.
Our new head coach will pit himself against Pep Guardiola and the newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.
The only good news is the match will be played at the Emirates but it’s a horrible start for the boss and unfortunately it doesn’t get much easier as we’ll then head to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea the following week.
Man City [H] and Chelsea [A] is a nightmare start and you’ve got to feel sorry for Emery as it would have been nice for him to begin his tenure with a couple of routine wins to ease him in to the job.
He could conceivably start life with consecutive defeats and you know some fans will have the daggers out for him before the end of August if the worst happens against City and Chelsea.
However, looking at the more positive side of things, it’s a great opportunity for Emery to make his mark and a couple of good results against City/Chels will get him off to a flying start.
Arsenal then welcome West Ham to the Emirates before consecutive away games against Cardiff and Newcastle so it’s certainly going to be a tough opening five fixtures for the new manager.
Looking at the entire fixture list, December is going to be an important month as we face Tottenham [H] and Man Utd [A] in quick succession while we have back-to-back away games over Christmas against Brighton and Liverpool.
We then have to face the reverse games against Tottenham and United in early March but the end to the season looks favourable as our last five games are against Watford [A], Palace [H], Leicester [A], Brighton [H] and Burnley [A].
Overall, it’s a shocking start for Emery, a couple of tough runs and a gruelling Christmas period but what looks like a decent finish to the season on paper.
Here is our full fixture list for 2018/19:
