BBC journalist: Player set to undergo medical after Arsenal agree £19.2m deal
Respected BBC journalist David Ornstein claims Arsenal have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen worth £19.2m to sign goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer.
The German international has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks as Unai Emery looks to bring in a new number one to replace Petr Cech.
Our Czech legend is now 36-years-old and he made several costly mistakes last season so there is no doubt we need to sign a reliable keeper – as David Ospina isn’t up to the task either.
Leno has emerged as our prime target after developing in to one of the most consistent goalkeepers in German football during his time at Leverkusen and he kept 10 clean sheets in 33 games last season.
The 26-year-old was unlucky to miss out on a place in the German World Cup squad but he’ll still be a big upgrade on our current keepers and it looks like a deal is now on the verge of completion.
There were widespread reports last night suggesting that Arsenal were closing-in on a deal and respected BBC journalist David Ornstein has confirmed on Twitter that a £19.2m fee has now been agreed with Leverkusen.
Leno is now due to undergo his medical with the Daily Mail claiming that the stopper has already agreed terms over a five-year contract ahead of his switch to the Emirates.
Fee agreed between Arsenal & Bayer Leverkusen – Leno still needs to undergo a medical before #AFC can complete the signing, for a reported €22m (£19.2m)

Let’s hope there are no last minute glitches as Leno would be an excellent addition to the squad and £19.2m in today’s market seems like a good deal for a player of his age and quality.
Leno is now set to become our second major signing of the summer following the free transfer arrival of Stephan Lichtsteiner while we’re reportedly also closing-in on deals to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torreira.
