‘I want to go’ – Player confirms he wants to complete £35m move to Arsenal
According to quotes in the Metro, Caglar Soyuncu has confirmed he is keen to join Arsenal amid reports we’re in talks to sign the £35m-rated Freiburg centre-back this summer.
Unai Emery is wasting no time revamping the squad he took over from Arsene Wenger and defence is seen as a priority with right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner arriving on a free transfer while goalkeeper Bernd Leno has also been snapped-up from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, Emery is expected to sign at least one, if not two, new centre-backs as Per Mertesacker has retired, Laurent Koscielny is out for six months through injury while the futures of Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers are in doubt.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos is due to arrive from Borussia Dortmund but Arsenal are also expected to sign a younger defender and Soyuncu has been touted as a serious target in recent weeks.
The Metro claim that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has identified the 22-year-old as a potential signing this summer after being impressed by his progress since he joined Freiburg two years ago.
The newspaper says Soyuncu is rated at £35m and they carry quotes from the players agent, Mustafa Dogru, as confirming talks with Arsenal have taken place.
Dogru is quoted by the Metro as saying earlier this month:
‘Sven Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund,’
‘He first scouted him back in Germany. Sven is interested in Caglar, there are concrete talks, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed. We will see what happens next.’
Soyuncu has now added fuel to the fire after confirming he has an option to join Arsenal and would love to move to the Emirates but admits the final decision will be down to Freiburg.

He’s quoted by the Metro as telling Turkish press:
‘Arsenal are an option & I want to go there. But I have 3 more years on my current contract and everything depends on the club [Freiburg],’
Soyuncu has bags of potential and he looks to have a huge future ahead of him but I personally don’t think Arsenal will pay his reported £35m fee so Freiburg may need to lower their expectations if a deal is to be agreed.
