Agent confirms ‘Arsenal have bought’ £26m South American international

By on June 26, 2018

According to Football London, the agent of reported Arsenal target Stanislav Lobotka has confirmed that we’ve already signed Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Unai Emery has already signed right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer while goalkeeper Bernd Leno has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen but we’re in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.

Santi Cazorla has rejoined Villarreal while Jack Wilshere has confirmed he’ll be leaving the club when his contract expires this weekend so Emery needs to bring in at least one new midfielder and Torreira has emerged as a prime target.

The Uruguayan international has been strongly linked with a move to north London in recent weeks but as yet we’ve had no official confirmation that a deal has been wrapped-up.

The Express report that Arsenal are expected to announce the £26m deal imminently while Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero appeared to confirm the news after revealing that Torreira had been sold for €30m – which equates to around £26m.

Ferrero is quoted by Football London as saying last week:

“Torreira has left for €30million. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed. We bet and we won, paying just €30million. The money that comes in is used to keep the club going.”

The 22-year-old praised Arsenal as being one of the biggest clubs in the world when he was quizzed about the reported move to north London but he insisted his only focus was on the World Cup.

However, it seems we’ve had another huge hint that a deal is already in place as the agent of reported target, Stanislav Lobotka, claims that the Celta Vigo midfielder is unlikely to join Arsenal because we’ve already signed Torreira.

The agent is quoted as saying by Football London:

“Arsenal have bought Torreira to play six, so I do not think it’s going to happen. We only had a few words about feelings about the club, about what we think about Stanko’s future, but nothing in particular.”

There is no smoke without fire so although we’ve yet to have formal confirmation from Arsenal yet, I think it’s only a matter of time before the Torreira deal is announced.

The South American is currently representing Uruguay at the World Cup so the transfer will probably be confirmed once he’s back from Russia.
