“He’ll go to London for a medical” – Insider confirms Arsenal will sign £27m star
According to the Express, Lucas Torreira’s own father has confirmed the Sampdoria midfielder is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal and complete a £27m move after the World Cup.
Torreira has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks after emerging as Unai Emery’s prime target as our new head coach looks to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer.
Emery has already snapped up right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno while a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also on the verge of completion but we desperately need someone to sit in front of the back four and protect the defence.
Torreira has all the attributes needed as he’s become one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A since joining Sampdoria two years ago and the Express claim he’s set to complete a move to Arsenal after we agreed a £27m fee for his services.
The 22-year-old’s own father, Ricardo Torreira, has now confirmed that his son will travel to London to undergo his medical once he’s finished representing Uruguay at the World Cup finals.
He’s quoted by the Express as telling Radio Crc:
“I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him,”
“It’s not done, neither is it official, because he hasn’t signed anything, but there’s a great chance that Lucas’ future will be in England.
“There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.”
Sampdoria’s president, Massimo Ferrero, confirmed last month that Torreira had been sold so with the players father claiming a move to Arsenal is close to completion, I think it’s safe to say this deal is in the bag.

The Uruguayan international will be an excellent addition to the squad as he showed against Portugal on Saturday what an excellent defensive midfielder he is so I think he’ll be a terrific foil for Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey.
