According to the Sun, Unai Emery has been handed a boost as Reiss Nelson is set to commit his future to the club after agreeing terms over a new long-term contract.

Nelson has been at Arsenal since joining our youth academy aged just 9-years-old and he’s developed in to one of the most highly-rated youngsters at the club over the past few years.

The 18-year-old broke in to the first team set-up under Arsene Wenger last season and after making a couple of substitute appearances, Nelson made his full debut during the League Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers in September 2017.

The winger then made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace in January and went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions last season, and he looks set to be given his chance in the first team squad by new boss Unai Emery having impressed in pre-season.

Nelson’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks with several top European clubs reportedly sniffing around and hoping to lure him away from the Emirates.

However, Sun journalist Daniel Cutts claims that the teenager has now agreed terms over a new bumper five-year contract that will earn him a big pay-rise on the first professional deal he signed two years ago.

The deal is expected to be announced shortly but this is great news for Arsenal as Nelson has the ability to become a top player for the club if he develops over the coming years.

He’s already an England Under-19 international and the pacey winger will provide us with a vital option in attack if Emery fails to bring in a more established winger before Thursday’s deadline.

I’m delighted Nelson has committed his future to the club, now it’s time for Aaron Ramsey to follow suit…
