Arsenal man out for a month as injury blow is confirmed + Mkhitaryan/Sokratis latest
Arsenal have confirmed a fresh injury blow with the news that Kostantinos Mavropanos has been ruled out for around a month with a groin injury plus the latest on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sokratis.
Mavropanos – who joined Arsenal in January 2018 – broke in to the first team under Arsene Wenger towards the end of last season and showed huge promise during his 3 Premier League appearances so fans are keen to see how he’ll progress this campaign.
The 20-year-old was hoping to make his first start of the new season against Vorskla in the Europa League last week but was ruled out of the game after picking up an untimely groin injury in training.
The club have now revealed that Mavropanos will be out for about four weeks which is a blow as it means he’ll miss tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup third round clash with Brentford. The Greek youngster would probably have started the game and he’ll also sit out at least two more Europa matches so this injury has come at the worst time for him.
Our options in the middle of defence against Brentford are likely to be further reduced as Sokratis is a doubt with a dead leg that forced him off during the win over Everton at the weekend. I don’t see Emery risking him so Shkodran Mustafi may be called upon tomorrow.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also going to be assessed ahead of the League Cup clash after missing the Everton game with an ankle injury that he picked up against Vorskla on Thursday night.
A statement on Arsenal.com said:

Right dead leg during Everton match on Sunday. Currently being assessed ahead of Wednesday’s match with Brentford.Dinos Mavropanos
Groin injury. Expected to return to full training in four weeks.
It’s a shame for Mavropanos to be injured at this point of the season but hopefully we can beat Brentford and he gets himself fit to play in the fourth round tie at the end of October.
With regards to Miki and Sokratis, I don’t think there is any need to risk them tomorrow night so we should see them given more time to recover ahead of Saturday’s league game with Watford.
