Arsenal in battle to sign £44m winger, move expected this summer
According to ESPN FC, Arsenal are in a battle with Manchester United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich over the signing of AS Roma’s £44.2m-rated winger ahead of a summer move.
Unai Emery is in the market for a top class winger as the squad is desperately short of wide players and our options will be further reduced should, as expected, Danny Welbeck leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Under is one of the most exciting young players in Italian football but his future at the Stadio Olimpico is in serious doubt as he’s one of Roma’s lowest paid first team players and they’ve failed to agree terms over a contract extension.
ESPN claim that Under is in no hurry to leave this month but his representatives and Roma have now acknowledged that a move in the summer is the best solution, which suits Arsenal perfectly.
Emery has admitted he has no money available for permanent transfers this winter and will be forced to wait until the summer to properly strengthen his squad so a swoop for Under could be well-timed.
ESPN claim Arsenal are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the Turkish international but will face stiff competition from the likes of Man Utd, Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
The report says Roma are ready to cash-in at the end of the season if a deal worth at least £44.2m [€50m] is put on the table as that would give them a healthy profit on the €13m they paid Basaksehir for his services in 2017.
The Turkish outfit are due 25 percent of any future sale so Roma are unlikely to lower their asking price but £44m is the going rate for a player as talented as Under in today’s market.

He’d be a great addition to the Arsenal squad if we could win the race for his signature as Under was voted as Roma’s Young Player of the Year for 2018 and has already provided 6 goals and 8 assists in 23 games this season.
The Turkish star is predominantly a right winger but he can play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so he’d give Emery plenty of options in the final third, but we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves as a deal to bring him to north London is still a long way off.
