Arsenal leading race to sign 28y/o winger as Emery looks to splash £40m

According to reports in Portugal via TeamTalk, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Yacine Brahimi on a free transfer as Unai Emery looks to spend his meager £40m transfer kitty wisely.

TeamTalk reports that Arsenal chiefs are only going to make around £40m available to Emery this summer so the boss is going to have to work on a shoestring budget as he looks to try and make us competitive again.

The boss made it perfectly clear last month that he wanted to sign a pacey winger on loan but we failed to land any of our reported targets with Malcom, Gelson Martins, Yannick Carrasco and Ivan Perisic among those strongly linked.

Arsenal are in desperate need of top class defenders with a new centre-back, right-back and left-back likely to be on the agenda so £40m isn’t going to go very far when you consider Virgil van Dijk cost £75m on his own.

Therefore, Emery is going to have to get creative with his signings and A Bola, via TeamTalk, claims that Arsenal are leading the race to sign Brahimi on a free transfer from Porto.

The Portuguese newspaper says AC Milan and Watford are among the clubs also chasing the Algerian international but it’s Arsenal who’re reportedly leading the way for the 28-year-old.

There is no link to the A Bola story as it was published in their print newspaper so we’ll have to take TeamTalk’s report on face value but this isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Brahimi.

He’s been touted as a potential target on and off for years ever since he started to impress for Porto following his move from Granada in 2014 so it’s no surprise to see his name cropping up again ahead of the summer.

Brahimi is still an important first team player at the Portuguese giants and has provided 9 goals and 6 assists in his 31 appearances this season so he’d certainly provide an added threat in the final third if he did join Arsenal.

The attacker – who’s predominantly a left-winger – is out of contract in June and he’s shown no sign of penning an extension at the Estadio do Dragao so I think he’d be a decent bit of business.
