Arsenal handed huge injury boost as star returns to training ahead of Rennes clash

By on March 13, 2019

Arsenal have been handed a huge injury boost after Henrikh Mkhitaryan was able to take part in full training ahead of our Europa League clash with Rennes on Thursday night.

Mkhitaryan was forced to miss our crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend that saw us climb back into the top four of the Premier League with eight games remaining.

The Armenian international has been suffering from a back problem so was unable to feature against his former club on Sunday afternoon and a team news update on Arsenal.com this morning confirmed Mkhitaryan remained a doubt for the visit of Rennes.

The official Arsenal website said the 30-year-old would need to be assessed at London Colney this afternoon before his availability was determined for the huge Europa League last-16 second leg.

However, it looks like Mkhitaryan will be in contention to take on the Ligue 1 outfit as Football London reporters were present at today’s open training session and saw the attacker taking full part along with the rest of the squad.

This will come as a major boost to Gunners boss Unai Emery as Mkhitaryan has been in excellent form recently which has led to him being named as Arsenal’s Player of the Month for February.

It’s the second piece of positive news we’ve received in a matter of days as it was also confirmed yesterday that Alexandre Lacazette will be available to face Rennes after seeing his three-match ban reduced to two games – which he’s already served.

Lacazette’s availability could be vital as we need to score at least two goals in order to progress to the quarter-finals after losing the first leg 3-1 and the chances of that happening are far greater with the in-form Frenchman in the squad.

It all means Arsenal will be without just three players for tomorrow night’s game with Hector Bellerin, Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding the long-term absentees due to serious injuries.
