Rob Holding has given Arsenal a much-needed boost after stepping-up his rehabilitation from a serious knee ligament injury by doing ball work at London Colney today.
Holding had established himself as a key player under Unai Emery during the first half of the season and was producing some fine form playing on the left side of a back three.
However, the 23-year-old’s campaign was cruelly derailed when he suffered a knee ligament injury during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on December 5th, 2018.
Holding was immediately ruled out for at least six months meaning his season was over and he’s been working hard during his rehabilitation to get himself ready for pre-season training ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
The centre-back has now taken a huge step forward in his recovery programme as he’s been photographed doing ball work on the training pitches at London Colney this afternoon. The former Bolton youngster will continue to progress with his rehab over the coming weeks and as long as he doesn’t suffer any set-backs, Holding should be fit for the start of next season.
It will be interesting to see how Holding fits into Emery’s plans next year as he was becoming an important first team regular before his injury and we could certainly do with a dominant centre-back to shore-up our leaky defence. Can Holding be the answer to our problems? He has the potential to be a top player but much will depend on how he recovers from his injury so let’s hope the rest of his rehab goes smoothly and he hits the ground running next season.
In other news, Arsenal were handed a double boost today as Nacho Monreal was able to take part in full training after recovering from a calf injury that kept him out of the defeat at Leicester.
Mesut Ozil is also back in contention to face Valencia tomorrow night after taking part in training today having overcome a minor foot problem that ruled him out of the trip to the King Power at the weekend.
