Arsenal make formal offer for La Liga forward, deal could be done at £8.8m
According to reports in Morocco via Fox Sports, Arsenal have made a firm offer to sign Youssef En-Nesyri and could get a deal agreed with CD Leganes if £8.8m if put on the table for the striker.
Unai Emery needs to strengthen his squad over the coming months if we’re to be serious challengers again any time soon after we missed out on a top four finish and were thrashed 4-1 by Chelsea in the Europa League final last week.
Overhauling the defence and adding a new box-to-box midfielder should be priorities for the Arsenal boss but we also need to bring in more depth in attack as we were hugely reliant on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this season.
Danny Welbeck is leaving this summer while the future’s of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are also in doubt so Arsenal need to strengthen in attack and we’re now being linked with a surprise new name.
Fox Sports are citing a report from Moroccan outlet Assahifa Al Ousbouia that claims Arsenal have made an offer to sign CD Leganes forward Youssef En-Nesyri after Emery identified him as a transfer target.
The report says Real Betis are also in talks to sign En-Nesyri and the player and his agent are now considering all offers on the table but Arsenal are reportedly in pole position to sign the 22-year-old as he wants to try a new league after spending the last three years in Spain.
According to the report, Leganes are ready to do a deal at £8.8m but any transfer has been put on hold for now as En-Nesyri is currently away with the Moroccan national team ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations – which starts tomorrow.
En-Nesyri joined Leganes from Malaga last summer and enjoyed a fine debut campaign having provided 11 goals and 2 assists in 34 appearances in all competitions to help the club finish 13th in the La Liga table.
The Moroccan international is predominantly a striker but he can also play out on the wing so he’d be a useful addition to the squad and offer back-up for Aubameyang and Lacazette next season.
Arsenal don’t have the money to buy world class names this summer as Emery is going to be operating on a tight budget after failing to qualify for the Champions League so the reality is we’re going to be in the market for lower level players.
A new forward isn’t a priority as we need to invest heavily throughout other areas of the squad so spending around £9m on a youngster with potential like En-Nesyri could be an attractive move for Arsenal.
