Arsenal in talks for £52m duo – Emery could be about to solve two key weaknesses

By on June 10, 2019

Unai Emery is facing a hectic summer as he looks to overhaul an ageing Arsenal squad that failed to qualify for the Champions League having finished fifth in the Premier League and got beaten 4-1 by Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Looking at the odds to finish in the top four next season, Arsenal are currently best-priced 5/4 behind the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and United and we’re a whopping 30/1 to lift the title. At the start of each season, I usually have a cheeky bet on Arsenal to win the league but I’d need to visit  luckybonuscode.co.uk and pick up a free bet to persuade me this year. We’re a million miles away from being title challengers.

So there is plenty of work to be done and Emery should start by revamping his defence as we conceded 51 goals last season – over twice the number Liverpool and City conceded. Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi could go so Arsenal need at least one top class defender.

However, Emery is working on a tight budget so we can’t afford a De Ligt or a Koulibaly but we’ve been strongly linked with Joachim Andersen of Sampdoria with reports claiming we’ve submitted two formal offers and I think he’d be an excellent signing.

The Danish international would cost around £26m according to reports so he’d be within our budget and he’s been one of the best young defenders in Italian football over the past two years.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave Sampdoria this summer and Arsenal have a great chance of winning the race for his signature so let’s hope we do all we can to lure him to north London as he’d be a great signing.

Arsenal also desperately need to add some genuine width to our squad as it’s an area we’ve been lacking in for some time and Yannick Carrasco has once again emerged as a serious target.

The Belgian international came close to joining Arsenal in January and he’s desperate to leave Chinese outfit Dalian Yifang this summer, and widespread reports claim we’re in advanced negotiations over a potential £26m deal this summer.

The 25-year-old was a huge talent during his time at Monaco and Atletico Madrid before selling out for the money and heading to China but he wants to return to Europe and I think he’d be a superb addition to the Arsenal squad.

He’s capable of playing on either wing or through the middle if needed so he’d provide Emery with a versatile option in attack. Carrasco has plenty of experience at both domestic and international level and he’s just coming into his prime years.

Arsenal need to work smart this summer but I think it would be £52m well spent if we could land Andersen and Carrasco. Emery can balance the books by offloading some fringe players and bring in further reinforcements to help build a squad capable of finishing in the top four next season.
