Arsenal linked with top class duo as Emery looks to strengthen squad

By on July 4, 2019

Unai Emery has plenty of work to do in the transfer market this summer if Arsenal are to claw their way back into the top four next season as we have an ageing and unbalanced squad right now. We’re miles away from the top two but with a few top class additions, there is no reason why we can’t be challenging for third.

As it stands, Arsenal are tipped by most bookmakers to finish sixth in the table next season, however, if we can bring in a few solid signings to strengthen key areas, then I’ll be using my bet9ja promotion code to back us to finish at least third in the table.

Luckily it looks like Emery is at least attempting to sign top class players as the Sun claims Arsenal have made an enquiry to sign Maguire but we made it clear to Leicester City we could only pay £50m for the in-demand centre-back.

Maguire has become an England regular and one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Leicester from Hull for £17m two years ago so understandably the Foxes have placed a huge price-tag on his head.

The Sun claims Man Utd have already seen a £70m offer rejected while Man City are also ready to show their hand so it’s not unthinkable that Arsenal’s £50m offer was laughed at by the Leicester chiefs.

On the face of it, it’s good to see Arsenal targetting decent players in a position we badly need to strengthen but come on, how on earth did we think we’d get Maguire for £50m? Why did we even bother to pick up the phone?!

No doubt the 26-year-old will end up moving to one of the Manchester clubs for circa £80m while Arsenal will continue to haggle over a few pounds in our pursuit of William Saliba….

As well as strengthening his defence this summer, Unai Emery also needs to add to his attack and L’Equipe are carrying a report claiming Arsenal have opened talks over a possible deal for Nabil Fekir.

The French international has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and almost joined Liverpool in a reported £53m deal last summer before the transfer collapsed at the last minute due to concerns over an old injury.

Fekir is now approaching the last year of his contract so Lyon are ready to cash-in and reports suggest he’s been offered to Arsenal for just £30m – which would be an excellent deal in today’s market.

L’Equipe claims initial talks are underway between the two clubs but there is a major sticking point; Arsenal need to offload Mesut Ozil before we can complete any deal to sign Fekir.

We desperately need to get Ozil’s huge wages off the books but we’re yet to find a club stupid enough to take him on so unless things change over the coming weeks, I don’t see us signing Fekir any time soon.

It’s going to be a busy month ahead, so stay tuned for more transfer gossip…..
