Arsenal eye double swoop for South American duo: Medical expected, Emery wants offer

By on July 15, 2019

It’s been another busy day of Arsenal transfer rumours and we’re being linked with a double swoop for two Brazilian internationals….

Unai Emery needs to bring in a winger this summer and we’ve been linked with the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Ryan Fraser and Nicolas Pepe in recent weeks but so far we’re yet to get a deal agreed.

It looks like the boss has now turned his attention to another target as Brazilian radio station Radio Grenal claim Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Gremio attacker Everton Soares.

The report says Arsenal officials will fly to Brazil this week to oversee medical tests as we look to get a deal in place for the left winger ahead of rival interest from a number of other top European clubs.

Everton has emerged as one of the hottest talents in South America after playing a starring role to help Brazil win the Copa America last month and he now looks set for a big-money move to Europe.

The 23-year-old has confirmed he has an offer on the table from an unnamed club and he suggested a deal could be wrapped-up before Thursday. Everton is quoted by The Sun as saying:

“At this moment I have an offer, but I can’t say the name of the club. Just like I can’t promise that on Thursday I’ll still be playing for Gremio, we’ll see.”

The newspaper says Arsenal have held talks with Everton’s agents so it appears we could be the mysterious club the player is talking about and Emery could be about to land his second major signing of the summer following the arrival of Gabriel Martinelli.

The boss is also on the look out for defensive reinforcements and a surprise name has emerged as a target with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Arsenal have joined Tottenham and Man City in the race to sign Dani Alves.

The 36-year-old is looking for a new challenge after deciding to leave PSG when his contract expired last month and he’s always hinted he’d like to test himself in the Premier League before he retired.

It looks like Alves may get the opportunity to play in England as the Spanish publication says Arsenal are now in a three-way battle with Spurs and City over a free transfer deal for the Brazilian international.

The report says Unai Emery has told his bosses to make an offer to Alves as he wants to be reunited with him after working with the full-back during their time together at PSG.

We need to bring in competition for Hector Bellerin at right-back and Alves would be a superb short-term signing if we could pull it off as despite his age, he’s still one of the best full-backs in the world – as he showed at the Copa America this summer.

However, even if he wouldn’t command a transfer fee, Alves would still want HUGE wages so I’m not sure Arsenal have the money available to beat the likes of Man City to his signature.

If we could land Alves and Everton this summer it would be a superb double swoop for two exciting Brazilians but I’m not convinced the Alves rumours will come to anything.
