Arsenal ready to launch £54m double swoop on Euro giants

By on July 16, 2019

According to reports in Spain via TeamTalk, Arsenal are ready to launch a £54m double swoop on Real Madrid to sign goalkeeper Keylor Navas and winger Lucas Vazquez.

It’s been a frustrating summer so far as Unai Emery has struggled to land any of his targets with the boss only managing to sign young Brazilian attacker Gabriel Martinelli in a £6m deal from Ituano.

We’ve reportedly failed with attempts to get deals agreed for the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Kieran Tierney, Ryan Fraser and William Saliba but it looks like Emery is ready to switch his focus with a double raid on Madrid.

TeamTalk are citing a report from the newspaper version of Marca that claims Arsenal are prepared to pay around £54m [€60m] to sign goalkeeper Keylor Navas and winger Lucas Vazquez this summer.

The duo are among a number of players who’ve been put up for sale by Madrid as they look to balance the books following some big-money signings and it looks like Arsenal are ready to take advantage of the fire-sale.

Navas has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois last summer and the Spanish publication says Arsenal are prepared to pay £16m [€18m] for the 32-year-old stopper.

If we were able to get a deal agreed, then Navas would come in as Petr Cech’s replacement and the Costa Rica international would compete with Bernd Leno for the number one shirt next season.

Emery is also in the market for a winger and Marca, via TeamTalk, claims that Arsenal are targetting a £38m [€42m] swoop to sign Vazquez as he’s set to fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Eden Hazard.

I personally have HUGE doubt over Marca’s claim that Arsenal want Navas as I just don’t see us being in a position to spend £16m on another goalkeeper considering how tight Emery’s budget is.

However, the Vazquez move makes far more sense as we desperately need a winger and the 28-year-old would be a solid addition to the squad if we could lure him to the Emirates.
