Sky Sports: South American star undergoing medical with Arsenal
According to Sky Sports News, David Luiz is undergoing his medical with Arsenal ahead of a proposed £8m deadline day move from Chelsea.
Unai Emery has been in the market for a new centre-back throughout the summer window and our need to sign an experienced central defender was exasperated when Laurent Koscielny joined Bordeaux earlier this week.
We were linked with Dayot Upamecano and Daniele Rugani but those deals proved difficult to pull off and Luiz emerged as a shock target late on Wednesday night when L’Equipe claimed we were in advanced talks to sign the Chelsea star.
The French publication says Luiz didn’t train yesterday as he tried to force through a move to the Emirates after being told by Frank Lampard he wouldn’t be a guaranteed first team regular this season.
Things have moved quickly with widespread reports claiming Luiz arrived at London Colney to undergo his medical this morning after an £8m [source: BBC] fee was agreed between Arsenal and Chelsea.

So barring any late complications, it looks as though Luiz is set to complete a move to Arsenal before today’s 5pm deadline with the 32-year-old reportedly signing a two-year contract.
Obviously the South American has his flaws but I actually think he’ll prove to be a decent signing for Arsenal. He has bags of experience in the Premier League and is the kind of ball-playing centre-back we’ve lacked in recent years.
A major issue we’ve had is build-up play from the back and in midfield at times so the additions of Luiz and Dani Ceballos will certainly solve those problems and we should get the ball into the final third much quicker this season.
Luiz won’t be the only new arrival today as Kieran Tierney is also in London to complete his £25m move from Celtic so it looks like it’s going to be an excellent window from Arsenal.
