Arsenal urged to sell Mkhitaryan before the transfer window closes

By on August 22, 2019

It’s been a tough season for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and in truth he’s failed to impress since arriving at Arsenal from Man Utd in 2018. It seems like he’s having a hard time adjusting to the team and is yet to gain a full understanding with his new team-mates. His passing has been poor at times, his shooting wayward and he rarely gets the better of the opposition. He has been so bad in some matches that he has been referred to as being less reliable than free online casino games, which is not a good look for any player. Which is why Arsenal has been urged by a number of supporters to offload Mkhi before the European transfer window closes. He has been a hugely disappointing signing and even if he does end up staying, the Armenian international is set to fall down the pecking order under Unai Emery.

Letting go of the old, in with the new

The boss has been overhauling his squad over the past year and Arsenal have just come off the back of one of our best transfer windows in recent history. We’ve signed hugely talented players such as Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid, Gabriel Martinelli from Brazil while Emery splashed out a club record £72m to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille. With these attacking additions, Mkhitaryan is going to find first team football harder to come by. In addition to new faces, Emery has also bolstered his squad with attacking talent from the academy with Reiss Nelson and Buyako Saka promoted to the first team squad. Nelson in particular looks set to be heavily involved in Emery’s first team plans following an impressive season on loan in Germany last year so Mkhitaryan could find himself on the fringes of things. Emery knows the likes of Nelson, Martinelli and Saka are the future of Arsenal so he’d rather give them some much-needed game time than stick with the likes of Mkhitaryan – who’s the wrong side of 30 and who’s best years are behind him.

So the first step for Emery is to trust the youngsters and blood them into the first team this campaign. Give the likes of Nelson, Martinelli and Saka plenty of action in the domestic cups and Europa League. Trying to offload Mkhitaryan over the coming days should also be a priority for the boss as we could do with getting his hefty wages off the books. There is no point paying all that money for a player who offers so little and isn’t a first team regular. We need to act fast and find a buyer for him before the European window closes.

A squad to root for

The squad is now looking in excellent shape. We have world class strikers in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette who are as good as anyone in the Premier League. Aubameyang in particular is going to be vital for Arsenal this season and he’ll look to build on last season when he shared the Golden Boot. The Gabon hitman has already scored the winning goal against Newcastle on the opening weekend before netting the pivotal goal during our 2-1 win over Burnley last Saturday. This has already highlighted his importance to the team and there is certainly more to come from Aubameyang.

We’ve also strengthened in defence after signing David Luiz from Chelsea and hopefully he can help tighten things up at the back. Rob Holding will be returning from injury soon while Calum Chambers impressed alongside Sokratis at Newcastle so suddenly Emery has plenty of centre-back options to choose from. Kieran Tierney should also prove to be a superb addition to the squad when he returns to full fitness so Emery has no excuses for not getting Arsenal back in the Champions League this season.
