Team news: Arsenal confirm fresh injury blow but duo set to return

Arsenal have confirmed a fresh blow with the news that Reiss Nelson has been ruled out with a knee injury but Alexandre Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe are back to full fitness.

Nelson limped out of Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Standard Liege in the Europa League two weeks ago and was subsequently ruled out of the win over Bournemouth the following weekend.

We thought the injury was only minor, however, it appears it was far more serious than first thought as Arsenal have confirmed Nelson won’t be back in training until some point in November after damaging knee ligaments.

The news will come as a blow to Unai Emery as Nelson has featured in 6 games so far this season – scoring 1 goal and providing a further 2 assists – and he was just starting to find some form.

However, there is some better news on Lacazette as the club have confirmed the striker is back in full training after recovering from an ankle injury that’s hampered him throughout the entire season so far.

The Frenchman will be assessed by the Arsenal staff over the coming days before a final decision is made but it looks like he could be back in contention to face Sheffield United on Monday night.

There was further good news on Smith Rowe as the young midfielder is also available again after overcoming concussion that he suffered during the win over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

Alex Lacazette
Left ankle. Alex is progressing well and is back in full training. Decision on his participation for Monday’s match at Sheffield United will be made in the forthcoming days.

Emile Smith Rowe
Fully recovered from collision against Nottingham Forest in Carabao Cup. Available for selection.

Reiss Nelson
Left knee (ligament injury). Sustained during the Standard Liege (h) match. Aiming to return to full training in November.

The players who’ve been away on international duty will be assessed at London Colney on Friday but there doesn’t appear to be any concerns to worry about so Emery should have a strong squad to choose from on Monday night.
