Key man sent to hospital after Arsenal suffer fresh double injury blow

Kieran Tierney was sent to hospital after suffering a shoulder injury during Arsenal’s win over West Ham on a night when Hector Bellerin also suffered a hamstring problem.

Tierney has endured a frustrating time with injuries since arriving from Celtic in the summer and he was just starting to get back to full match fitness after returning to the starting eleven at the London Stadium on Monday night.

However, the Scottish international needed treatment midway through the first half after falling awkwardly in the penalty area and Tierney had to be replaced by Sead Kolasinac in the 29th minute.

Freddie Ljungberg confirmed after the game that Tierney was sent to hospital to have the shoulder assessed so we’ll have to wait and see what the diagnosis is before we’ll know how long he’ll be on the sidelines for.

It was a costly night for Arsenal in terms of injuries as Bellerin was forced to pull out of the match shortly before kick off after feeling his hamstring during the warm-up. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was brought in to start at right-back.

Ljungberg told Arsenal.com:

“Tierney, I think it’s something with his shoulder but I don’t know exactly what it is. But obviously we had to take him off so I think he’s going to maybe go to hospital and check what it is.

“Hector had a bit of feeling, I think, in his hamstring in the warm up. Then we took the decision. I said I’m not going to force anyone to play if you don’t feel 100 per cent.

“So we took him off and had a straight swap on that with Ainsley, and Ainsley had been out in the cold for a little bit and comes on and does really well, so I’m really proud of him and happy for him.”

It seems like Bellerin’s injury isn’t serious so hopefully he’ll be available to take on Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, however, I have a horrible feeling Tierney has dislocated his shoulder.

If confirmed, the full-back will be facing a spell on the sidelines, which would be a huge blow as we head into the hectic festive and New Year period and it would put a lot of pressure on Sead Kolasinac to stay fit.

Injuries aside, it was a great night for Arsenal as we came from behind to beat West Ham 3-1 thanks to three quick-fire second half goals that ended our nine-game winless run. Let’s hope the confidence is back in the squad as we’ve got some tough fixtures coming up.
