Arsenal EPL predictions and news for Matchday 29

With a first half of the 19/20 EPL season something Arsenal fans would rather forget, there’s still plenty to play for as the East London club currently sits in a miserable 9th position. A mid-week clash with Manchester City was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic which could cause some problems for future fixtures. That said, it seems that this coming weekends EPL fixtures will go ahead, including an away trip for Arsenal as they head to Brighton with hopes to move closer to a European qualification position in the table.

The Gunners keep gunning

It’s been a rough start to the season, but a steady undefeated streak at the very least keeps Arsenal in the top half of the table where they belong.

Another win Arsenal places Mikel Arteta back on track whilst Arsenal attempts to secure a qualification position into European competition next season. Picking up the slack of Emery (or any manager) hasn’t been easy (historically), but with fixtures such as Brighton, Arsenal will be looking to capitalise on their lack of goal power.

Arsenals now have an unbeaten streak of an impressive 8 games, which is a sigh of relief after the start to 2019. With the good comes the bad, those results have seen far too many drawn fixtures, leaving Arsenal in 9th position, not something Arsenal fans want to get used to. The good news is, they’re just eight points adrift of the top four which isn’t totally out of the question.

Road games for Arteta have been rough as he’s failed to secure a single win, drawing all five of his contests in charge. The defensive end of Arsenal has certainly picked up but, they’ll come into this fixture with City with just three clean sheets from thirteen away games this season.

Brighton trend in the opposite direction

Meanwhile, Brighton is currently trending in the opposite direction of their opponents as they enter this weekend’s fixture without a win in nine games. Last weekend extended the streak with a boring draw against Wolves. Even though Brighton is winless, they’re still two points clear of the relegation zone.

Norwich is the only side in the Premier League with fewer wins than Brighton with five, Brighton has six wins to their name but has found a certain saving grace with their ability to make it difficult for teams to beat them. Brighton has only lost three from their previous ten Premier League fixtures which are their only attribute to brag about.

Arsenals away form isn’t pretty

Arsenal has much in common with their opponents this weekend in the fact both sides do a good job at drawing their games. Arsenal holds the record for most drawn games in the top flight of the Premier League this season, tied with Wolves as they both sit in the top ten with 13 points acquired from drawn fixtures. Sat in a disappointing 9th place in the table, hope shouldn’t be dwindled as the race to secure a top-four position just yet.

The away team in Arsenal have certainly turned their performances around since the arrival of Mikel Arteta and do have unbeaten streak teams have to contend with, the problem is that their inability to win games away from home has been a problem for some time. They’re unbeaten in seven away games, but six of those matches have ended in complete lacklustre games with a drawn scoreboard.

  • Brighton has drawn 38% of their entire Premier League games this season, that includes 3 of their last 4 played at home ending in a draw.

Fingers point to the draw

Sometimes the most obvious outcome is not always the ideal path, but given both these sides respective draw records, it’s hard not to see this one heading in the same direction.  With 62% of their away days ending in a draw, Premier League odds for the fixture are also wary of the draw with no clear favourite dictated in the price available.

I believe we’ll see a 0-0 or a 1-1 result this weekend for Arsenal, I believe that they do continue to improve and will put up more of a fight next season, but for now, Arsenal will be happy to continue their undefeated streak at the least, with yet another draw away from home.
