The Philippe Coutinho rumours have intensified today amid reports the playmaker has agreed personal terms with Arsenal after holding talks at London Colney on Friday afternoon.

Coutinho has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks with Sport reporting in late July that we had put forward a proposal to the Brazilian international after talks with his agent, Kia Joorabchian.

It was claimed in that report that Coutinho had initially knocked back the offer but then changed his mind and asked for more time to consider it, as the player wanted to see if Arsenal would qualify for Europe before making a final decision.

Having beaten Chelsea in the FA Cup final last weekend, Arsenal can now offer Europa League football and that may have been enough to persuade the South American to make a move to north London this summer.

The paper version of Sport are now reporting today that Coutinho has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and we’re now trying to thrash out an agreement with Barcelona to get the deal over the line.

You can see the newspaper report here:

This comes after journalist Layth Yousif claimed on Friday evening that Coutinho and his representatives had been at London Colney holding further talks with Arsenal chiefs about a move this summer.

Layth is a huge Arsenal fan and is known to have close ties with the club so there certainly seems to be things happening behind the scenes as Coutinho edges closer to joining Arsenal – presumably on an initial loan deal.

Some fans have pointed out that the 28-year-old was training with Bayern Munich on Friday ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Chelsea, which is true. However, Coutinho isn’t expected to feature in the game and could quite easily have taken a private jet from Germany to London after training yesterday as it only takes about an hour flight.

Let’s see if anything else comes out in the media but I’d welcome Coutinho with open arms if Arsenal can get a deal done. Some fans aren’t convinced but I think he’d be an excellent addition to the squad.

Obviously his career has stalled since joining Barcelona but he knows Premier League football well and was superb during his time at Liverpool. Mikel Arteta desperately needs to add some creativity to the squad and Coutinho would certainly help in that regard.

He can play on the wings or as a No.10 and would provide that little bit of guile around the box that we’ve missed since Mesut Ozil has been frozen out. Plus, Coutinho isn’t afraid to put in some work off the ball and I think he’d thrive being the ‘main man’ at Arsenal.

Personally, I’d love to see him arrive and think that Coutinho, along with Willian, Partey, Ceballos, a top class centre-back and Aubameyang signing would be a terrific window.
