Arsenal team news update: Key man returns but 3 players ruled out of Molde game
Arsenal have provided a team news update ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League group stage clash with Molde at the Emirates Stadium.
Thankfully it looks like our injury woes at centre-back are now easing as the club have confirmed David Luiz is back in full training and considered available for selection again.
The Brazilian was forced to miss the games against Dundalk and Manchester United after suffering a thigh injury against Leicester City but Luiz is now fit and in contention to return versus Molde tomorrow night.
With Rob Holding making a swift return to action with a superb performance against United last weekend and Shkodran Mustafi also fit again, Arteta now has plenty of options to partner Gabriel in the middle of the back four.
Holding came through Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Man Utd unscathed as the club confirmed today that we suffered no fresh injury problems following the game at Old Trafford, so that’s a relief.
The team news update on Arsenal.com confirmed:
David Luiz
Left thigh. Sustained slight thigh issue during Leicester City (h) on 25 October. Now back in full training and available for selection.
However, Arsenal still have a couple of centre-backs unavailable as Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari aren’t fully fit yet. Chambers is back in training but still needs time to build up his fitness after a long spell on the sidelines.
Mari is doing ball work outside but isn’t expected to resume full training until later this month as he continues to work his way back from an ankle ligament injury so both players will miss the Molde game.
Gabriel Martinelli is Arsenal’s third absentee as the Brazilian youngster is still recovering from a knee ligament injury that he sustained in June. Martinelli is doing some group training but won’t be back in action until later this year.
So Arteta’s squad is looking good as we prepare to welcome Molde to the Emirates tomorrow night looking to maintain our 100 per cent record in the group stages of the Europa League.
