[Photos] Partey tussles with Odegaard + star returns: Arsenal train ahead of Burnley
The Arsenal squad have been continuing their preparations in training today ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley.
We make the tough trip to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon and Mikel Arteta and his team of coaching staff have been putting the players through their paces at London Colney today.
Granit Xhaka was among the faces spotted out on training pitches after he made his return after testing positive for covid. The midfielder contracted the virus while away with the Switzerland squad during the international break earlier this month and had to isolate in his homeland until he returned a negative test result.
The 28-year-old was given the all-clear to travel back to the UK and Xhaka has now returned to full training. However, he won’t be available against Burnley as he’s still serving a three-match ban but Xhaka looks set to return for the North London Derby on September 26. Although I’d personally like to see Sambi keeping his place alongside Thomas Partey with Xhaka consigned to the bench!
Partey is now back to full fitness after recovering from an ankle injury and he should return to the starting eleven against Burnley after making an impact off the bench versus Norwich last weekend. Partey has been snapped tussling with Martin Odegaard in training today so hopefully he’s practicing for what will no doubt be a fierce physical battle at Turf Moor.
The likes of Buykao Saka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabriel, Ben White and Kieran Tierney all took part in training today so Arsenal have a strong squad available for the game against Burnley on Saturday.
The only notable absentees from training today were Mohamed Elneny – who’s still recovering from a thigh injury – and Rob Holding – who missed the Norwich win with a knee problem.
