[Player ratings] Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham: Smith Rowe & Auba star as Gunners smash Spurs
Arsenal battered Tottenham 3-1 in the North London Derby this afternoon with Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka getting the goals at the Emirates.
We started superbly and opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Smith Rowe turned home from Saka’s pass before Aubameyang finished off a wonderful counter-attack to make it 2-0 fifteen minutes later.
A rampant Arsenal went 3-0 ahead when Saka bundled his way into the box before slotting past Hugo Lloris as we blew Tottenham away in the first half.
Arsenal took their foot off the gas after the break as we looked to see out a comfortable victory and we should really have pushed on to really put the boot in as Spurs were there for the taking. Tottenham managed to pull one back in the 79th minute but Arsenal eased to a deserved 3-1 win.
Here are my ratings:
Ramsdale 7/10 | Not too much to do for a lot of the game but made a solid save to tip a Son shot over the bar and made a superb late save to deny Tottenham a second goal.
Tomiyasu 8/10 | Excellent. Looked so solid at right-back and wasn’t unfazed in the slightest in his first NLD. Looks to be a superb signing for Arsenal.
White 8/10 | Best performance in an Arsenal shirt so far. Dominant at the back against Kane and played some lovely passes out of defence.
Gabriel 7.5/10 | Continued his fine form with another top display and is building a fine understanding alongside White. Assured on the ball and kept Kane/Son/Moura quiet for most of the game.
Tierney 7/10 | A real threat down the left in the first half and stood up well to the task of keeping Moura in check.
Partey 7.5/10 | Played some stunning long balls and dominated the midfield alongside Xhaka. Arsenal are so much better when Partey is fully fit.
Xhaka 7/10 | Did superbly well to get out of trouble and instigate the counter attack for the second goal. Made a few ‘tactical’ fouls to break up Spurs play. Not his biggest fan but this was a solid display.
Saka 8/10 | Back to his best after a slow start to the season. Set-up the opener and powered his way through to slot home Arsenal’s third goal. Hopefully he kicks on from here.
Odegaard 8/10 | Another top performance. A lot of Arsenal’s attacking play went through him and he was the link man. Worked hard too. Becoming a really important player for us.
Smith Rowe 9/10 | MOTM. Sensational from start to finish and showed he really wanted to put one over Tottenham. Opened the scoring and set-up the second goal with a terrific assist.
Aubameyang 8.5/10 | Back to his best. Wonderful move and finish to make it 2-0 but it was his work rate that stood out. He worked his socks off throughout the game and it made a big difference.
Subs:
Sambi 7/10 | Added some energy in midfield during the final stages
A N/A | On too late
