Arsenal team news update: 4 key players could miss Leicester trip
Mikel Arteta held his pre-match press conference today and he provided a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s huge trip to Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime. Let’s take a look at the key talking points…
The boss confirmed that we picked up ‘some knocks’ during the Carabao Cup victory over Leeds United on Tuesday night which has forced some players to miss training but Arteta refused to reveal any names.
We’ll have to wait and see who the injury doubts are and if any miss the trip to the King Power this weekend but one player who is a confirmed doubt is Kieran Tierney. The Scottish international missed the last two games due to a foot injury but Arteta says he’s been progressing well in training. Tierney will be assessed ahead of the game against Leicester to see if he’ll be passed fit.
Ben White was forced off during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leeds United after picking up a sickness bug that’s been going around the club. The centre-back has been unable to train since but Arteta will give him every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the Leicester game.
Odegaard doubt
Pablo Mari is another player that’s been affected by the sickness bug as he missed the Leeds game entirely and remains a doubt this weekend while Martin Odegaard will also face a fitness test after missing out in midweek.
told Arsenal.com:
on team news…
There have been a few of them that haven’t been able to train. We picked up some knocks during the game against Leeds, but hopefully, when everybody is back, we will have better news.on if he can say who has picked up the knocks…
Not yet.on Kieran Tierney…
He’s progressing in training. Let’s see again how he is today. He felt a little bit better in the last few days but he wasn’t 100 per cent ready to start the game, but again, we will see what happens in the last 40 hours.on the sickness bug going around at the club…
Yes it was a bit of sickness, and just tummy aches and things like that. Hopefully today everybody will be OK.on if Ben White is affected…
He hasn’t trained yet, so again we’d have to wait for today to see how he’s feeling, and make the decision then.
So Arsenal have doubts hanging over Tierney, White and Odegaard while Granit Xhaka is certain to miss the Leicester game with a knee injury so Arteta could be without four key players this weekend.
Let’s hope at least a couple of them manage to pass late fitness tests and are available tomorrow because it’s vital Arsenal pick up a result against Leicester as we look to close in on fourth place.
