Player in London to undergo medical and complete Arsenal move
According to Football London, Matt Turner is in London to undergo his medical and complete his move to Arsenal from the New England Revolution.
Mikel Arteta needed a new goalkeeper after it became clear Bernd Leno was looking to leave after losing his first team place to Aaron Ramsdale last season.
Turner emerged as a surprise target in January and Arsenal quickly wrapped-up a deal following negotiations with the New England Revolution. The MLS outfit confirmed the deal back in February, releasing a statement saying Turner would join Arsenal on July 1st subject to a medical.
Football London says the 28-year-old stopper is now in the capital to undergo his medical and finalise the move to Arsenal, with the player’s wife posting a photo of the pair at the London Shard.
The report says Turner is now set to be unveiled as our latest new signing with Arsenal paying New England £7.5m for the goalkeeper – although the deal is reportedly £5m up front with a further £2.5m in potential add-ons.
So we’ll have to wait for this deal to be formally announced by Arsenal but Turner is expected to act as back-up to Ramsdale next season. His arrival will also pave the way for Leno to leave with the German international linked with a return to the Bundesliga.
Turner was voted as the best goalkeeper in the MLS last year following a string of impressive performances and the 6ft 3in shot-stopper has 18 caps for the US national team, so hopefully he proves to be a shrewd signing.
It’s been a busy week at the Emirates as Arsenal have also agreed a £45m fee with Man City for Gabriel Jesus while reports suggest we’re also set to submit fresh offers for Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez.
Arteta has already snapped up winger Marquinhos and attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira so it looks like the club mean business this summer as we look to build a squad capable of competing next season.
