Arsenal submit £34m bid to sign Marco Asensio

By on July 6, 2022

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Arsenal have submitted an offer worth around £34m [€40m] to sign Marco Asensio but face competition for the Real Madrid attacker.

Mikel Arteta has been busy this summer bringing in goalkeeper Matt Turner, midfielder Fabio Vieira, winger Marquinhos and striker Gabriel Jesus but the boss is still looking to sign further new additions.

A winger appears to be on the agenda as Arsenal were strongly linked with Raphinha last month before Chelsea blew us out the water and Asensio has been touted as a possible alternative target.

It looks like Arsenal have now formalised their interest in the Real Madrid attacker as Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims we’ve tabled an offer worth £34.4m [€40m] for Asensio.

We aren’t the only club in the running for the 26-year-old’s signature as the report says AC Milan have offered £25.8m [€30m], but you’d like to think Arsenal are in pole position due to our far superior offer.

Regular links

Asensio is a player that’s constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League as he’s never really been able to nail down a regular first team place at Madrid, despite being highly-rated in Spain.

He started 23 games in all competition last season but only 2 in the Champions League as Real Madrid went on to beat Liverpool in the final. That shows he isn’t in Carlo Ancelotti’s best eleven.

Asensio has just 12 months remaining on his contract and it looks like he wants to leave in search of first team football, with Arsenal reportedly in the running to sign him.

The Spanish international is predominantly a right winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so his versatility would be a huge asset for Arteta.

If we could get a deal agreed at £34m, it would be a terrific piece of business and we could recoup some of that money with the sale of Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian is expected to leave this summer after failing out of favour.
