Arsenal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko in £32m deal
Arsenal are closing-in on a £32m deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City after agreeing personal terms with the defender.
Mikel Arteta has been busy strengthening his squad this summer after Arsenal missed out on the top four last season. We were narrowly beaten to fourth place by Tottenham after losing two of our last three matches.
The bookmakers are backing Arsenal to miss out on the top four once again this coming season. The Gunners are currently priced at 7/4 at betting sites like https://xn--mgbabr8icc.net/ to finish in the top four during the 2022/23 campaign. Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City are all tipped to finish above us.
It’s clear Arsenal need to strengthen their small squad if we are to compete with the top teams, but 7/4 seems like generous odds considering how well the club are recruiting this summer. Arteta has already brought in Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira but the signing of Gabriel Jesus could be the game-changer as the Brazilian striker is a superb addition.
It looks like Arsenal are about to raid Man City for a second time as widespread reports claim we have agreed a £30m deal to sign Zinchenko, which could rise to £32m including add-ons.
The Ukrainian international has also agreed personal terms over his move to the Emirates Stadium, so all that remains is for him to complete his medical. That could take place in the US as both Arsenal and Man City are in the States on their pre-season tours.
Zinchenko will join Arsenal to compete with Kieran Tierney at left-back. The Scottish international has struggled with injuries over the past two years so we desperately needed top class competition as Nuno Tavares was a liability last season. Tavares is expected to head out on loan once Zinchenko’s move is finalised.
However, the 25-year-old is also comfortable playing in central midfield and Arteta may use Zinchenko in that role regularly next season. Arsenal need cover for Granit Xhaka in the left midfield position and that’s a role that suits the Ukrainian perfectly.
If Arsenal can also bring in a top class forward then this will have been one of the best transfer windows in recent memory. And Arteta will certainly have a squad capable of competing for the Champions League qualification spots next campaign.
I have a feeling those 7/4 odds are going to quickly shorten once the seasons kicks-off, as Arsenal should be more than a match for the likes of Tottenham and Man Utd.
