Arsenal predicted line-up against FC Zurich
Arsenal are set to commence their Europa League campaign against the Swiss champions FC Zurich this evening at the Letzigrund.
The Gunners have begun their Premier League campaign brilliantly as they are currently sitting at the top of the league, one point ahead of the reigning champions Manchester City.
On the other hand, FC Zurich are currently struggling in the Super League this term as despite playing seven games, they are yet to find their first victory of the season.
This will be Arsenal’s first meeting against Zurich, however, the north London club have enjoyed great success against the Swiss sides over the years. They have previously played six times against the Super League teams and won all of those games.
Expected Arsenal line-up against FC Zurich
Mikel Arteta might be looking to make some changes to his starting eleven and provide game time to those players who haven’t had the opportunity to play regularly in the first few weeks of the season.
Arteta has suggested he’ll still pick a strong side so Aaron Ramsdale is expected to keep hold of his place between the sticks. Rob Holding and Takehiro Tomiyasu could make their first starts of this campaign against Franco Foda’s side.
Holding could be paired up with Ben White at the heart of the Arsenal defence, while Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney might be the full-backs today.
Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey remain sidelined and therefore, the Spanish boss will have to continue with Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park.
Arteta should be looking to give some rest to Martin Odegaard – who was a doubt ahead of last weekend’s game against Manchester United due to a minor injury. After picking up a fresh injury in the post-match warm-down session against the Red Devils, Emile Smith Rowe will miss out this evening.
Therefore, Fabio Vieira is expected to make his first start in the Gunners’ colours. The £34m summer signing made his debut last Sunday as a second-half substitute and should be fit enough to start against the Zurich.
Arteta doesn’t have any alternative senior options on the wings as Reiss Nelson is injured and Marquinhos may not be ready to start yet, so Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka will continue on the flanks. Gabriel Jesus might find himself on the bench in this fixture and Eddie Nketiah should get his first start of the season for Arsenal.
