Arsenal’s summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko has reportedly sustained a fresh injury ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Brentford.

The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Manchester City for a fee of around £30m. The Ukrainian started the first three games for Mikel Arteta’s side, but a knee issue kept him out for a few weeks before returning to the action against Manchester United.

The Ukraine FA released a statement this morning and confirmed that Zinchenko has sustained a fresh injury to his calf muscle during a training session ahead of the Brentford game. The full-back will remain sidelined for two weeks for treatment and recovery. Therefore, he will be out of Arsenal’s clash with Thomas Frank’s side on Sunday.

The statement further said that the former Man City man immediately informed his national team manager Oleksandr Petrakov about this unfortunate news and the versatile full-back has now been withdrawn from Ukraine’s national team squad ahead of the international break.

Zinchenko is out for two weeks

The statement read:

“The player of the London “Arsenal” suffered a calf muscle injury during training at the club, which will require about two weeks for treatment and recovery. Oleksandr immediately personally informed the head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Oleksandr Petrakov, of the unfortunate news by calling him. We wish Sashka a speedy recovery.”

Arsenal have been struggling with their injury issues in recent weeks and Zinchenko is the latest to be ruled out. Mohamed Elneny is facing ‘months’ out with a hamstring issue while Emile Smith Rowe will also miss the trip to Brentford with a groin problem.

Reiss Nelson is also struggling with a thigh injury so Arteta will be without at least four players this weekend. Cedric Soares is also a doubt with a knock while Thomas Partey will require a late fitness test having only recently returned to training following a four-match absence with a thigh injury.

Mikel Arteta’s side have started the season brilliantly and they are showcasing promising displays on the pitch, however, the growing injury list will be a point of concern for the Spanish boss.

The Gunners have widely been touted as one of the contenders to finish in the top four this season. However, their rising injury problems and the lack of squad depth in the midfield and the flanks could be the stumbling block in their quest for success this season.
