Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has opened up about the reason behind his decision to leave Manchester City and join the north London club this summer.

The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Man City for a fee of around £45m. The Brazilian has started his life at the Emirates Stadium brilliantly, scoring four goals and notching up three assists in seven Premier League appearances so far this campaign.

During an interview with ESPN Brazil, Jesus expressed his frustration with playing as a centre-forward under Pep Guardiola as the number nine doesn’t get involved much in games. So, the South American decided to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian further stated that he spoke with Mikel Arteta before joining Arsenal in order to understand the Gunners’ playing style. The Brazil international also says that he has now been freed by the Spanish boss and is enjoying his life at his new club.

Jesus breaks silence about his Arsenal move

Jesus said:

“At City, The striker didn’t touch the ball that much, you see this by watching the games. And, when it was time to touch the ball, it was not the striker, because [Guardiola] ended up putting a midfielder to come closer. OK, fine. So, I decided to change.

“I talked a lot with Arteta about Arsenal’s style. He knows me, I know him, I understood what he wanted from me. Now, I’m free on the pitch, playing football with a smile on my face and trying to do my best all the time.”

Gabriel Jesus was a great acquisition for Arsenal this summer. Having already had more than five years of experience playing in the Premier League, the forward took no time to settle down at the Emirates Stadium and his prior connection with Arteta at City has also helped him in settling down quickly.

Having won multiple trophies with the Citizens, the 25-year-old has brought a winning mentality into a young Gunners’ squad, which is a big plus for Arteta’s team.

Meanwhile, following the conclusion of the international break, Arsenal are now set to resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday lunchtime against the city rival Tottenham Hotspur. So, it will be interesting to see who will come up top in the tactical battle between Arteta and Antonio Conte tomorrow.
