Arsenal owner Kroenke ready to spend in January
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is reportedly prepared to invest more if Mikel Arteta wishes to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Gunners’ owner was previously under fire from the Emirates faithful for not being able to run the club properly and not investing in the squad. However, things have started to change in the last few seasons.
Having spent around £142m last summer, the north London club’s hierarchy didn’t hold back in the recently concluded transfer window either and invested around £120m to bolster the squad.
The success in the transfer market has been reflected in their on-field display in the early stages of this campaign as after finishing outside of the top four in the last six consecutive campaigns, Arsenal are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League with 24 points from nine games.
Speaking on GiveMeSport, O’Rourke has stated that Kroenke isn’t going to restrict the funds in the upcoming transfer window and is ready to back Arteta if the Spaniard wants to reinforce the squad in January.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have already started planning ahead of the winter window and the money will be available to sign the Gunners boss’ priority targets.
Kroenke ready to spend more in January
O’Rourke said:
“I think they are busy planning for the January transfer window as well where money will be available if Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his squad. The Kroenkes have come in for a bit of stick in the past, but they are putting their money down and backing Mikel Arteta and, so far, it seems like things are paying off with the success Arsenal are having, especially on the recruitment front.”
Arsenal have spent money shrewdly in recent years and signed talented young players with high potential. The Gunners’ success rate in the transfer market has increased during Mikel Arteta’s tenure.
Meanwhile, despite making five major acquisitions this summer, the north London club failed to strengthen their midfield and the flanks where they are thin on numbers and it can be expected that the club’s hierarchy will be looking to strengthen these two areas in January.
Douglas Luiz is one of the players who is linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as a potential option to strengthen the engine room, while Mykhaylo Mudryk has been mentioned as a likely target to bolster the flanks.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see what Arsenal decide to do in the winter transfer. Adding more options to their squad will help Arteta in keeping his players fresh during a busy period of the season and that will aid in achieving all the objectives at the end of this campaign.
