Kevin Campbell backs Arsenal to sign Brighton star Leandro Trossard
The former striker-turned-pundit Kevin Campbell has backed Arsenal to sign Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.
The 27-year-old has been enjoying a stellar start to this season, scoring six goals and notching up a solitary assist in 11 Premier League appearances.
The Gunners appear to be actively looking to sign a new wide attacker in the upcoming transfer window, while Cody Gakpo has been mentioned as one of the potential targets for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported last week that Trossard has attracted Arsenal’s attention following his performances so far this campaign and the north London club could make a move for him in the upcoming transfer window.
Speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Campbell has stated that Trossard would be a great acquisition for Arsenal, given the Belgian is intelligent and can finish off his chances.
The Pundit further claims that the 27-year-old would be a squad player and his presence would help Arteta in rotating his wing options without any ‘drop off’.
Trossard to Arsenal
Campbell said:
“I think Trossard would be a good signing. I think he would thrive at Arsenal. He would be a squad player, one you could rotate in and out of the team and there would be no drop off. I think he is a really good player. He is very smart, has good movement and he can finish. It would be a smart move in my opinion.”
Trossard could be a very good addition to Arsenal’s squad. The Belgian’s current deal with Brighton is set to expire at the end of this season and there is an option included in his contract to extend the deal for one more year. So, he should be available for a relatively cheap fee next summer.
His current market value is around £22m, as per Transfermarkt, and it would be excellent business if Arsenal could snap him up for that kind of fee.
The Gunners are in search of a new winger and the 27-year-old might be an option, however, I think the Brighton man’s best position isn’t on the flanks but rather inside forward is more suitable for him.
I believe Trossard lacks the necessary dynamism to play as an out-and-out winger at the highest level, so he might not be the best option for Arsenal. Although he can deputise for Gabriel Martinelli if he were to join the club, I don’t think the Belgium international would be the ideal choice for the north London club.
So, it will be interesting to see what Arsenal decide to do about their flanks. Signing a new winger in January would be a shrewd decision and I believe Cody Gakpo might be better suited over Trossard.
