Arsenal will reportedly make only one signing in this January transfer window with Mikel Arteta keen on adding more options to the flanks, as per The Telegraph.

The Gunners have seemingly been eager to strengthen their squad in this winter window with Fabrizio Romano earlier stating that the north London club want to bolster their midfield department and the wings in January after missing out on adding more firepower in these two areas last summer.

The Sun previously reported that Arteta would be handed only £50m to spend and sign his transfer targets in winter. However, it would be a daunting task for the Spanish boss to strengthen two positions – with quality players – with the mentioned budget.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph is now stating that Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gasper is looking to make only one acquisition in this January window with Arteta wanting to strengthen the wide areas.

The report further claims that Mykhaylo Mudryk and Facundo Torres are among the two names who are on the north London club’s wishlist to bolster the flanka.

Arsenal to make one signing this January

Following an impressive start to this season, Arsenal have been touted as one of the contenders to challenge for the title this term. However, the only stumbling block that could prevent them from going head-to-head against Manchester City is if they’re struck with injury problems or burnout issues – during the second half of this season – due to their lack of squad depth.

Mikel Arteta’s side lacked midfield options following the long-term injury to Mohamed Elneny, while Thomas Partey also struggled with his injury issues during the early stages of this season. And it seemed they might need to strengthen their engine room this winter.

However, with the Egyptian edging closer towards full fitness,  Arteta will have four first-choice midfielders available, very soon. So, Arsenal could cope with the demands of the season, after the new year, with the current midfield options they already have if they remain injury-free.

Therefore, signing a new winger would be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy if the Gunners can afford to make only one addition in winter, given they have just Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as the first-choice options with Reiss Nelson yet to showcase consistency and Marquinhos is still very young.

Mudryk could be a good addition to Arsenal squad, given he has showcased his talent in the Champions League this term, however, his whopping £87m price tag might prevent that deal from fruition. So, Facundo Torres would be a feasible option for Arteta’s side, but he might not be ready to play straightaway in the Premier League yet and would need time to develop if he joins the club in winter. Therefore, it will be interesting to see who Arsenal will sign to strengthen their wings this January.
