Arsenal ‘more likely’ to sign Palmeiras star Danilo in January
Arsenal could reportedly sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in January, as per the South American football expert Tim Vickery.
The 21-year-old emerged as a potential target for the Gunners during the business end of the summer transfer window. Goal Brasil reported in August that Mikel Arteta’s side offered £20m to sign the South American but Palmeiras made It clear that they would only have sold their star man, had anyone matched his release clause, which was €100m (£87m).
Meanwhile, the Independent reported in September that despite failing to broker a deal for Danilo during the summer window, Arsenal kept in touch with the Brazilian club’s hierarchy over a possible January move and there’s a possibility that the talented midfielder might end up at the Emirates stadium this winter.
Brazilian outlet BolaVip recently claimed that Arsenal have been impressed by the 21-year-old’s talent and the Premier League leaders are confident of securing a deal for the youngster in January with Palmeiras already searching for a replacement.
Danilo to Arsenal
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Vickery has said that it is ‘likely’ that Arsenal could be able to sign Danilo in January due to the fact that Palmeiras have been knocked out of the Copa Libertadores and therefore, failed to book their tickets for February’s Club World Cup, so, they might opt to sell the Brazilian in January.
When asked whether Arsenal would be able to secure a deal for Danilo in January, Vickery said:
“It is more likely because they won the Copa Libertadores – South America’s Champions League – in the last two years, but they went out in the semi-finals this year. Had they won it, they would have had the Club World Cup in February, I think it is, and they wouldn’t want to sell because that’s their Holy Grail. But now they’re not in it, I think a sale is perhaps more likely.”
Danilo could be a very good acquisition for Arsenal. The Gunners appear to be keen on strengthening their midfield in the upcoming transfer window and the 21-year-old could be a shrewd purchase.
The midfielder is good with the ball, can play threading passes between the lines and also has an eye for long-range passing. So, he possesses almost every attribute to play in Arteta’s system.
The youngster would be able to learn and flourish under Thomas Partey’s tutelage, while Arteta has shown his qualities of developing youngsters with Gabriel Martinell and Bukayo Saka being the prime examples. Therefore, Danilo would be in good hands if he opts to join the Emirates Stadium this winter.
