Talks underway as Arsenal look to make two January signings
Arsenal are reportedly ready to strengthen two key positions and are expected to splash the cash once again in the upcoming January transfer window, as per ESPN.
After enduring difficult times over the last decade, it appears the Gunners are finally on an upward trajectory and are seemingly turning into one of the Premier League giants under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.
A big credit goes to the club’s hierarchy – who have backed the Spanish boss and helped him acquire the right signings over the past few transfer windows – for the recent transformation.
After spending around £140m during the summer of 2021, the north London club didn’t hold back last summer either and invested around £120m, making five major acquisitions.
ESPN have now claimed that Arsenal are prepared to back Arteta once again in the January window. They are ready to invest in order to strengthen the squad and help the Spaniard in mounting a title charge after the World Cup break.
The report further states that central midfield and the wing are the two areas where the north London club are looking to bolster this winter with Palmeiras star Danilo mentioned as a potential target to strengthen the middle of the park.
Arsenal to back Arteta this January
The report also says that the Emirates outfit have already made contact with Palmeiras over a possible January move and a fee of around £20m (€24m) could be enough to broker a deal for the talented Brazilian.
Arsenal have enjoyed a brilliant start this campaign and are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 37 points from 14 games, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
The Gunners have displayed excellent performances so far this term, however, the World Cup break might have come at the wrong time for them and this hiatus could hinder their momentum.
Moreover, most of Arteta’s first team players are currently competing in Qatar with their respective national teams. So, any injury picked up during this tournament, could turn out to be catastrophic for the Emirates outfit in their quest for the Premier League title.
Therefore, the fans will be hoping that Arsenal will be able to resume their campaign, after the break, exactly the way they ended it ahead of the World Cup. And any January signings will add some much-needed depth to the squad.
